Comprehensive Coverage
Industrial warehouse floors face relentless wear and tear daily. From heavy forklifts and constant foot traffic to spills and dragging equipment, these concrete surfaces are put to the test every single day. At Rock Solid Surfacing, we understand that warehouse floors need more than just a basic coating to protect them—they need a coating that becomes part of the floor itself. Our polyaspartic/polyurea coating is designed specifically to withstand the demands of an industrial environment, offering unmatched durability, flexibility, and ease of maintenance.
Polyurea: More Than a Surface Coating
What sets our polyurea coating apart from other industrial floor coatings, such as
epoxy, is its ability to become an integral part of the concrete itself. The process starts with expert surface preparation using floor grinding, which opens the pores of the concrete. This allows our purebred polyurea to penetrate deeply into the surface rather than just sitting on top. Once cured, the polyurea becomes part of the concrete, creating a bond so strong that the concrete will break before the polyurea does. This ensures long-term durability and resistance to delamination due to moisture or salts—an issue commonly faced with
epoxy coatings.
Epoxy floors are prone to delamination because they adhere to the surface of the concrete but don’t fully integrate with it. Over time, moisture pressure and salts within the concrete can cause the epoxy to lift or crack. Our polyurea’s unique wetting ability ensures that it forms a permanent bond with the concrete, making it a superior choice for industrial applications.
Consistent Thickness for Maximum Protection
When applying any floor coating, achieving a consistent thickness is essential for maximum durability. With epoxy coatings, surface preparation often involves
shotblasting, which follows the natural contours of the concrete, leaving high and low spots on the floor. This results in an uneven application, with epoxy curing thicker in the low spots and thinner in the high spots, compromising the floor’s strength. For instance, a typical epoxy floor designed to cure at 15 mil (1/1000th of an inch) might be 30 mils thick in the low spots but only 4 or 5 mils in the high spots.
By contrast, our floor grinding method levels the concrete surface before applying polyurea, ensuring a smooth, flat surface. This preparation allows for an even application of the polyurea coating, providing consistent protection across the entire floor. The result is a durable, long-lasting surface that can withstand heavy industrial use without uneven wear.
Flexibility to Handle Floor Movement
Warehouse floors experience more than just traffic—they also shift and expand over time. Traditional coatings, like epoxy, tend to crack when there is movement in the floor, especially over expansion joints or pre-existing cracks. Our polyurea coating is engineered with flexibility in mind, allowing it to move with the natural shifts of the concrete. This prevents cracks from forming in the coating and ensures that it remains intact even under pressure.
Additionally, before applying the polyurea, we take extra care to fill any cracks in the concrete all the way to the bottom, which is typically around four inches deep. Many coatings only fill the surface of cracks, leaving them vulnerable to moisture pressure. By filling the entire crack, we prevent moisture from creating future damage, and the filler stays firmly in place, preventing collapse over time.
Nonslip Safety: Exceeding OSHA Guidelines
Safety is a top priority in any industrial environment, and slippery floors are a major hazard. Our polyurea coatings are built with nonslip aggregate embedded into every layer, ensuring that the floor maintains safe levels of Coefficient of Friction
(COF), as set by OSHA. Over time, most coatings with surface-level nonslip aggregate wear down, leaving the floor smooth and dangerous within a year. Our method keeps the nonslip protection consistent, even with heavy use, preventing slip-and-fall accidents and reducing the risk of costly litigation.
Low Maintenance for Long-Term Use
Maintaining a clean and functional warehouse floor can be a challenge, especially when traditional coatings develop microscratches that fray and trap dirt. Our polyurea coating minimizes the formation of microscratches, and any that do appear remain straight and intact, making them easy to clean. This eliminates the dirt buildup that often plagues epoxy-coated floors, which can make them look perpetually dirty and dull.
With our polyurea coating, maintenance is simple. All it takes is a mixture of water and ammonia, along with a neoprene squeegee and broom, to keep the surface looking fresh and clean. Unlike other coatings that require specialized cleaning solutions or frequent maintenance, our polyurea-coated floors are easy to care for and maintain their shine over time.
The Superior Option
When it comes to protecting your industrial warehouse floors, you need a coating that is built to last. Our polyaspartic/polyurea coating not only provides superior protection against the daily wear and tear of forklifts, spills, and abrasive traffic, but it also integrates into your concrete, making it a part of the floor itself. With consistent thickness, flexibility to handle floor movement, superior nonslip properties, and easy maintenance, our polyurea coatings are the ideal choice for any industrial space.
If you want a floor that stands the test of time, protects your employees, and reduces long-term maintenance costs, contact Rock Solid Surfacing today to learn more about how our polyurea coatings can transform your warehouse flooring.
